In Progress

I went to the thrift store today. The thrift stores just aren't on my path when I am not taking Jessie to school and her activities, so I don't go a lot during the summer.

This Goodwill is near a client's office that I was visiting today, so I made a quick stop. Is all I found was this milk glass vase. 49 cents. I do have several of these already, but I love these to hold all kinds of items, pens, pencils, scissors, hairbrushes, they are so useful. I don't know what I will use this one for, but I am sure I will come up with something!

I have been sewing this dress this week. I can't decide if I like it. It would probably look better on someone a size or two smaller than I am. I wanted something a little fuller. I love the square neckline though.

When I look at the picture here, I am thinking it looks like a nightgown. What do you think?

I am trying to decide how to hem it. I like this gingham bias tape, I just haven't made a decision.

Bias tape, No bias tape? Can't decide. That's how I work. I like to take my time and think about things.

I don't know if I should add the belt either. I am pretty much indecisive on this dress.

I think I like the belt and the bias tape looking at the pictures. Sometimes seeing pictures helps me decide.

I am getting ready to go to my sister Gail's in Alabama for the Fourth of July weekend. I may take the dress and have someone skinnier than me try it on.

Wardrobe Refashion

Son #2 left a Christmas gift here after Christmas break (see above). He said he would never wear it - and I never managed to return it.

One day I decided it would be great for bumming around the house in. It was too late to return it, so it became mine.

This week I decided to do some refashioning to it. I saw a shirt on Anthropologie
that gave me the inspiration. I decided to add bias tape around the neck and at the bottom though.

Because my Pirate belt was sitting on my cutting table I decided to try it on with the shirt. Looks pretty cute! Hubby thought I should add the pocket back on.

It actually looks better on the dress form than on me. I wish my waist was that small!! I won't be wearing this with the belt!

Life STINKS for me!!

Life STINKS for me!!! Just got over the skunk smell and guess what Max did today?

He decided to roll around in cow manure!!! He knew he was in trouble when he came home 5 minutes after I let him out!

Living in the country has so many advantages!! What is his problem?

Thrift Store Finds

Last week when I was out shopping for Pirate costumes at Goodwill, I found these two baskets. They still had their tags attached. I think they may have been from Target. I thought they may be good for reorganizing Jessie's closet. I cut the tags off and set them on the stairs to take up next time I went up to feed the turtles. (Jessie is visiting with family in Michigan until the big 4th of July party.)

Aren't they cute?

Well, when I was cleaning up in the house this weekend, every time I found something of Jessie's, I would throw it in the basket.

I had no idea the girl had so many earrings! I am sure she didn't either since they were everywhere except her dressing table!

So now I have decided these baskets need to stay on the stairs for filling with Jessie's WAYWARD items! I just need to make some different liners to go with the living room.
(That is not happening anytime soon!)

Yep, I like this idea! (Oh and I did edit that picture so you wouldn't see the dust bunny sitting on the stairs. Never noticed it till I was putting the picture on the blog)

My Day Off

I took today and Friday off to do some house cleaning. Well, this morning I decided that I had a lot of errands that needed to be run also. I decided today would be my errand day. I bought some essentials and did some "Pirate Day" shopping at the thrift stores, for our costumes. I will show my thrift store finds in another post.

This evening I worked on the eye patches and some of the scarves I had made that needed to be sewn shut.

I wasn't sure about the stamp on the patches, but I decided to just roll with it! It made my trip to Hobby Lobby worth the effort!

I also found some more Skunk Odor remover and am doing a repeat from earlier this week. Laundry, spraying, more laundry, etc. I hope this house smells normal by this weekend, unless Max decides to meet up with the "Skunk" again!!!

Skunked Again & This and That

Max again met up with a skunk or the same skunk, last night! I can't believe he didn't learn his lesson! I have been busy trying to get rid of the smell again!

See the picture below, that is Max. I asked him to be still so I could put his picture up with this blog post. He didn't listen. Now you know why I am having problems with him!!!

He is no longer allowed out at night! I need more excedrin and odor neutralizer! The smell is causing headaches!

On Sunday I made a purse for myself like the one I made for my Mom. You can't see in the picture's, but the main green quilted fabric has tiny white polka dots on it. I love polka dots! I used fabric scraps from my skirt on the front (with a little rick rack) and to make pockets on the back. This is a very lightweight purse.

I think I will change the button out for a larger one. Not sure yet. Now my skirt and purse match!

Today after work, I spent the last of my Joann giftcards (from Christmas and my birthday) on this fabric:

Now comes the hard part. I said I wouldn't buy any more fabric once my giftcards were used up. I have way too much. I need to use up what I have!

I need to get busy de-skunking my house. I need more neutralizer! I am also working on pirate night scarves. The red skull fabric above will be made into some too. I don't know what I will do with the others. I am sure I will think of something!

More Thrift Milk Glass

I found 3 more of these pretty milk glass bowls at the thrift on Saturday.

My favorite's are the baby ones! I really don't need them, but I really like them!

That was it for my thrift finds. There were yard sales everywhere this past weekend, but I didn't go to any of them. I really wasn't in a shopping mood. I stopped in the thrift to look for pirate costume attire for the family. Pirate night at my sister's is on July 3rd. Gotta get busy!

Where oh where can it be????

While going through some pictures on my camera card, I came across this picture of some pillows I had made for Faith (son #1's fiance - boy that sounds weird!).

I had made a green tufted cushion for a bench my son bought her for Christmas 2 years ago. I made these for her to put on the bench.

I remembered I had leftover fabric! All of a sudden it was important I have new pillows for my back porch gliders with this fabric.

The patterned fabric was from a Restoration Hardware curtain panel I found at a thrift store. I fell in love with the fabric when I made the pillows. I know I have leftover fabric!

Where oh where can it be?

I have to replace some red floral pillows I have on my gliders!

Where oh where can it be?

Why can't I remember where I put that fabric? I know I put it in a place I would be sure to remember and it would be easy to find! I know this because I knew I loved the fabric and regretted not buying the other three panels they had for sale.

Where oh where can it be?

This is where my husband would tell me I have too much fabric if I can't find the item I need. So we won't tell him about this!

Time to begin searching again!

Back from Virginia

(This post was interrupted by the Skunk episode! I thought I would post it now.)

We are back from visiting our daughter Amber and her husband in Arlington Virginia. We had a great visit! We didn't do much sight seeing. We were there to visit.

I brought my camera and guess how many pictures I took? TWO! Two pictures the whole time I was there! I really meant to take more. Some people are natural photographers, I have to make concentrated effort. I usually have my sister Gail get an extra set of pictures of any family event. (I usually have my camera, I just forget)

This is one of the pictures I took when we went to our daughter's work. She works at the NRA as an Event Service Coordinator. The have a museum in the building on the history of firearms.

Jessie and my husband

The other picture I took was when I forced Jessie to go into the laundry closet to talk on the phone late at night. She preferred the bathroom, but I had problems with that since it is a one bath apartment. I am not going to show that one. It's not pretty! It makes me laugh though!

I did get to go to two stores I have been wanting to go to. Ikea and The Container Store! I loved both of them. I didn't buy much, just a few little items, but I enjoyed going to these two stores.

I found a little white plate for my collection at HomeGoods while I was there. HomeGoods was right next to the grocery store, so I was forced to run in and see what they had.

A square little lace plate! Love it! Marked down to $1.00. I need to get stated on my white plate display. I think I have more than enough.

Skunk Odor Removal

See that product in the picture above? It saved me from one big headache!!!!

I stopped to pick up Jessie today at her friend Bridget's, where she had spent the night. I happen to be good friends with Bridget's Mom - Martha. She saved me today BIG TIME! I was telling her how Max had a run in with a skunk last night. I had bathed him in vinegar (the only thing I had on hand that I thought might remove the smell.) Well, Martha gave me this product above to use.

I came in the house this evening and Ooh - instant headache from the skunk smell!!! I knew this smell could last for months from my research on the internet. I followed the directions on the back, and no more skunk smell!

I am busy laundering everything I think this dog has touched with his smelly body though!
I am putting a capful of this shampoo in with my regular laundry detergent and so far it seems to be working! I also am going to mix with a little water and spray on my rugs. I have to test that first though. I don't want spotted rugs.

Wish me Good Luck with that one!

We had one computer go down and out today. There were storms in our are today. I don't know if that is what caused it. The computer was on a surge protector

Be back later! Hopefully with more interesting stuff!

I have a post in progress, but Max (our miniature daschund) decided to meet up with a skunk! Any ideas on how to get rid of this terrible smell???

Pirate Night and What I am doing!

I have been busy tonight cutting out pirate headbands/belts/scarf's for my sister Gail's annual 4th of July Riverunion party. This is an extended weekend event that she and her husband have every year. They live on the Tennessee river in Alabama. She is having Pirate night on July 3rd. I have been assigned the job of making these for Pirate night. We have some black and white skull bandana's also. I will also be making some in red.

I am also busy preparing to visit my daughter in Virginia. We will be traveling there later this week.

Tomorrow Jessie is getting her braces on. No work for me!!! Hope she isn't in too much pain!
