I Found It!

I finally found the black trim I wanted to put on the little lamp. I can't decide if I like it or not.

Originally I wanted to make a cover of red tartan fabric with this trim on the top and bottom. The shower curtain I made for this bathroom is made of that fabric. So I searched my scrap pile (looks more like a mountain) for bits to make this with - no luck. ( I am positive I will find some later, now that I have gone ahead and glued the trim on.)

Now I don't know if I like it or not. Maybe it would look better with just the trim on the bottom. Here is a closeup of the shade:

This is a stretchy velvet ribbon in the middle with gathered organza on either side of it. I didn't realize how uneven the trim was until I looked at this picture. It doesn't look that bad in person.

I think I will just live with it for a week or so. Hopefully I will find that tartan fabric or find some at the store.

Did you ever...........

Not much craftiness going on here. I wanted to revamp the lampshade in the boy's bathroom lamp, but I can't locate the trim I purchased to trim it out with.

My family was visiting and I took the stuff I had sitting on the dining room table and put it in a location that I would be sure to remember, but would be out of sight. It was a bag of different trims I purchased to make straps for Jessie's strapless dress for the Valentines dance. She rejected the easy version and I ended up making straps. In the meantime I decided one of the trims was perfect for my little lamp. Unfortunately I can't remember where I put it!!! Have you ever put something in a place you would be sure to remember and forgotten where that spot was? I sure hope I am not alone!

My mom brought some of this mix that I can no longer find in Tennessee. I am so happy! I make an Indian dish called Kima out of this. These are the four packages I am sending to my daughter in Virginia. She loves Kima just like I do! It is hot and spicy! I love this mix! This and red chili peppers create great Kima!

I have been asked by my Son#1 if I have given up on my kitchen blog. I haven't given up on it, I just haven't been cooking some our old favorites, this will probably be my next post on my kitchen blog. It has been mainly quick meals with tax season and basketball season.

When my Mom was down here she brought me a little scarf she had knitted for me (by my request). I don't like long scarfs. I wanted a short scarf. She made me one in pink with a big button that I love to death, but look at this one.............

It is so cute with the little ruffle on the bottom! She did a great job on this and I want more.......one in every color of the rainbow..............and winter and summer weight also! Looking at that picture, I know I need a haircut!!

Time to go to bed!

I would like to thank my family for .........

While I had my family visiting this past weekend, we celebrated my sister Vicki's 40th birthday. We had taco's and burritos for dinner and the birthday cake I made......................well not much was eaten because of how much dinner we had.

I have not made this cake in about 15 years. Yellow cake with buttercream frosting. My Mom told me Vicki - the birthday girl would love this. It turns out I love it too! I think only 3 pieces were eaten for the party, one little piece the next day, and this is all that is left of this cake now.

My husband hasn't eaten any, Jessie hasn't eaten any. Guess who ate the rest? So I would like to thank my family for the extra ten pounds I gained this week (you could have taken some with you when you left, or at least eaten more of it!).

Apparently, deprivation made me go berserk! This is what is left of the cake and I know it will be gone when I wake up for my 2:00 a.m. feeding!

Too many Vintage Sheets? I can't believe I said that!

I am still around. I have been busy with tax season, basketball and having my family in for an extended weekend! You would think I could have gotten one picture of their visit, but no! I cleaned off the kitchen table in anticipation of their visit and unless my camera is sitting there staring me in the face, I don't think about it! (A good reason for not cleaning!) I usually get my sister Gail to provide me with a copy of pictures taken at family events. I am just not a natural photographer like other people. I don't think of taking pictures until something is over.

While searching my vintage sheet stash for fabrics for Jessie's quilt, I decided that I may have too many vintage sheets and pillow cases! I decided to list some of them on Ebay. This is a hard thing for me to do! In my mind I see the things I want them to become..............a tote bag, clothespin bag, pillows, aprons, wallet, potholders, etc. I just love to look at the fabrics. It really makes me happy. I only got six of them listed - only 150 more to go! Just kidding! It's probably more like 75! I just hope they sell, because otherwise I will treasure them more! I will show people why they are so great! Now if I could just find the time!

Time to go to bed!

I made something for me!

I made what I will call a portfolio bag. I just made the pattern as I went. I found a quilted table runner at Marshall's last Friday night. It is from the "Carole Little Home Collection". She is similar to Rachel Ashwell to me - the Shabby Chic Queen! This table runner was marked down to $3.00. I snatched it quick! I knew just what I wanted to do with it!

I have been planning this bag for months. I just needed to find the right quilted fabric. I wanted to have a bag to take to work with me, that I could put a folder in, a book and some bills that I needed to pay (while at work). This works out great! I made the handle longer so it would hang a little lower. Jessie tried it on and put it crosswise across her chest. Looked cute that way too. It is so nice and light!

I added a beautiful rhinestone button on the front, but it closes with velcro. It has two pockets on the back (that I forgot to take a picture of). Just in case I want a place to put my cell phone.
The first picture is too dark. The colors of the bag are like the second picture. And I still have leftover fabric to make one more!

Auction Items

I thought I would show you what I donated to Jessie's school's silent auction. As usual, I was down to the wire. I had been working on parts of this for a while, but there I was finishing up on Thursday night. I HAD to send it in Friday morning. I filled this basket with items I made with Vintage Reclaimed fabric. I love this fabric! So pretty and feminine!

In the basket I put:

1. A Tissue Holder for the "Puffs To Go" with 5 refills (they are on the bottom of the basket and can't be seen in the picture)
2. A Water Wrap/Hot Drink Wrap
3. Lavender/Vanilla Eye Pillow (Great for headaches! You can use this hot or cold) It has a removable cover so you can wash it.
4. A Ruffled Edge Standard heating pad cover. So much better that those old blue things that you get with a heating pad.

I thought it looked cute! I meant to put a big pink ribbon on the basket, but it was late and I was tired and forgot. Hopefully someone bid on it!

Be Back Soon!

This One Is For Amber & Jacob

Dear Daughter and Son In Law:

I just thought you might want to see how your pets are doing. Since you have moved to Washington DC, I have not received one request for pictures of your beloved pets. They are doing well!..............and entertaining too!

You pretended to give them to your little sister, (as a little vacation souvenir) from Florida, but I know the real reason! Washington DC probably prohibits the sale of these little buddies! Just like the state of Tennessee!

Therefore I have was forced to invest in rubber gloves - due to the contamination of whatever disease these little creatures may carry! They are cute as buttons and I love to watch them swim about but..............Jessie keeps them in her room.....................and I need to remember to have her clean their cage and feed them and I think their home needs a little remodeling! Probably a larger tank, more rocks, a little plantlife (faux of course)........

It's not fair! I tried to ignore them! Pretend they weren't even in the house! Now I have grown attached to them! You knew this would happen!
By the way, I have changed their names to Ricky and Fred. Fred is on the right.

Love,
Mom

Jessie's Pottery Barn Teen Wish

Jessie was looking at a pottery barn teen magazine this summer. She has decided her room needs a makeover. She wants it to look like this:

She decided she wanted white bead board on the bottom half of the wall though. (I don't know if that will get done, and I can't believe a 13 year old knows what bead board is!) We are hoping to do this this summer. She has the paint chip ready and waiting! In the mean time I am going to be making a quilt for her bed. Hopefully it will be done before we begin the room transformation.

The quilt in the picture looks like some vintage linens I have, so I will be incorporating some of those into the quilt and also some new fabrics as well. I think I have some of the blue/aqua and pink flowered fabric. But Jessie is a polka dot lover, so I will probably put some of that in there.

I just found a pattern yesterday and it is made with pretty large pieces of fabric, so I don't think it will take that long! LOL! It is always so exciting to plan a project! The doing takes alot of effort!

Completed Lamp......New Project?

Well here is my completed little lamp. I love it! It has a little nightlight bulb in it, so it's not very bright.

I decided to change the location. The other little lamp was beside my wine/towel holder. I decided It would look better on top of the towel holder. I have some white washcloths rolled up next to it. These are for people who prefer to use their own personal hand towel. This is an idea I copied from my sister in Atlanta!

Now that I have this new lamp and new arrangement, I think I need to paint the frame of my quilt square. This is hung right above this little arrangement that is on the back of the toilet.

Don't you think the frame would look better painted black? Then......... I was thinking about painting the upper portion of the wall (haven't decided what color yet) and then.....................................WAIT! Somehow things have spiraled out of control with just one $2.99 new lamp!!!!

Sunday, February 1, 2009

I have been busy remaking this lamp. I went to the thrift store on Friday when I was out on a BUSINESS DELIVERY (Uh Uhm......the perks of being married to the boss.)

This little lamp (12 1/2" tall) was all I found. It was $2.99, but I thought it would be perfect for the Boy's bathroom. I know, I know the boys no longer live here, but the name continues on and on.....it will always be that name to me. I always keep a little light on in all of my bathrooms. I do not like walking into dark rooms. I guess I am paranoid, but it also looks really cute!! And I am all about the cute! I have a little light in there now, but it is so lightweight, it keeps falling over. This has been on a mental list of mine to replace for awhile.

This lamp is nice and heavy. It is a nice silver color and I really wanted to keep it that way, because I am lazy and seldom find anything that is perfect the way it is. I thought it might be okay with the chrome bathroom fixtures, but no........! I decided it need to be black and it needed a shade too. So I have been painting and coating the lamp, and trying to decide what I can do with the plain white lampshade I found lying around the house. Here is a picture of the little lamp I want to replace.

Yes, I know it is leaning! I have dropped this little light a lot when dusting and it is broken, but it still working! Since it was going to be next my black wine/towel holder I thought the base should be black.

I will be back with my AFTER pictures! I hope it is soon!
